Preacher: Sylvia Sandeman
At Open Icon Baptist Church, we value great preaching — preaching that engages deeply, humbly and honestly with Jesus, the Bible, and the pain and joy of living in the real world. And since going permanently online, we have been able to welcome great preachers from all over the world without having to wait for them to visit our shores. Click here to meet the inspirational preachers depicted in the gallery above, none of whom have preached for us!

Sylvia Sandeman
Sylvia Sandeman (1941 – 2025) was a vital community anchor and choir member across multiple congregations, including ours, Rosanna Baptist Church, and St Kilda Baptist Church, often all at the same time. Sylvia was a healthcare pioneer, joining Cabrini Hospital in Malvern, Victoria in 1976 as one of its foundational radiographers. Across a 34-year career at Cabrini, she helped pioneer the hospital's first advancements in CT and MRI medical imaging. She built deep ties with the Cabrini sisters (nuns) and was uniquely chosen to represent their Catholic assembly at an international conference in New York.
