At Open Icon Baptist Church, we value great preaching — preaching that engages deeply, humbly and honestly with Jesus, the Bible, and the pain and joy of living in the real world. And since going permanently online, we have been able to welcome great preachers from all over the world without having to wait for them to visit our shores. Click here to meet the inspirational preachers depicted in the gallery above, none of whom have preached for us!

Adam Couchman

Dr Adam Couchman is Academic Dean at St Francis College and a lecturer, teaching theology and liturgy. His PhD, completed in 2024, examined Jesus as a worshipper in the light of the creeds and was published in 2025 under the title “Liturgia Dei: Worshiping the Worshiping God.”

Adam’s studies include Salvation Army sacramentality, the theological anthropology of Gregory of Nyssa, and Christian holiness. He completed his undergraduate degree through the Sydney College of Divinity, his Honours through Charles Sturt University, and his MA with Distinction at the University of Manchester.

Adam served for seventeen years as an Officer in The Salvation Army.  His academic interests grow from sustained engagement with church practice, formation, and ministry. He values learning that shapes both thinking and lived faith. A past student once shared with Adam, “At first, I was afraid of taking your class, but you made learning more understandable than I imagined.”

His teaching and scholarship focus on worship and theology, with attention to how learning forms students for ministry, prayer, and the shared life of the church.
