At Open Icon Baptist Church, we value great preaching — preaching that engages deeply, humbly and honestly with Jesus, the Bible, and the pain and joy of living in the real world. And since going permanently online, we have been able to welcome great preachers from all over the world without having to wait for them to visit our shores. Click here to meet the inspirational preachers depicted in the gallery above, none of whom have preached for us!

John Sampson

Dr John Sampson is a longtime member of this congregation. He is a retired biologist and church historian. He served as the Archivist for the Baptist Union of Victoria (BUV) and has been a key figure in preserving the denomination's historical records. His historical work often focuses on colonial church history and missionary efforts. He has written  several historical texts, including Tumultuous Times: A Brief Colonial History for Baptists in Victoria, an exploration of the early development of the Baptist faith in the colony of Victoria, from its 1835 beginnings through the gold rush era. John was married to the Rev Ruth Sampson, one of the first female Baptist pastors, and is the father of the Rev Alison Sampson who was a pastor in our church for many years.
