Preacher: Cas Wepener
Cas Wepener
Rev Dr Casparus (Cas) Wepener is a prominent South African theologian, professor, and author specialising in Practical Theology, and an ordained minister in the Dutch Reformed Church. Cas currently serves as a Professor of Practical Theology at Stellenbosch University, focusing specifically on liturgy, homiletics (the art of preaching), and ritual studies. His research deeply explores the intersections of ritual and social capital, liturgies of anger, and the role of worship in African Independent Churches (AICs). Before his appointment at Stellenbosch University in 2019, he was an Associate Professor at the University of Pretoria. Beyond academic papers, Cas is an accomplished novelist and short story writer in Afrikaans. His literary work often bridges the gap between theological research and fiction.
