At Open Icon Baptist Church, we value great preaching — preaching that engages deeply, humbly and honestly with Jesus, the Bible, and the pain and joy of living in the real world. And since going permanently online, we have been able to welcome great preachers from all over the world without having to wait for them to visit our shores. Click here to meet the inspirational preachers depicted in the gallery above, none of whom have preached for us!

Preacher: Ross Langmead

Ross Langmead

Dr Ross Langmead (1949–2013) was a highly influential Australian Baptist missiologist, theologian, and songwriter. He is best remembered for his deep commitment to incarnational mission, which he lived out through radical discipleship and social activism in Melbourne's western suburbs. As a Professor of Mission and Dean at Whitley College (the Baptist theological college of Victoria), Ross was a leading voice in missiology. His work often focused on "ecomissiology"—integrating evangelical theology with care for non-human creation. He was the founding secretary of the Australian Association for Mission Studies (AAMS). Ross was a founding member of the Westgate Baptist Community, where he focused on sharing life with the urban poor and supporting refugees, particularly from the Burmese community. He was a prolific songwriter whose folk-style hymns and congregational songs, like those in his collection On the Road, focused on social justice, peace, and inclusive community.
