At Open Icon Baptist Church, we value great preaching — preaching that engages deeply, humbly and honestly with Jesus, the Bible, and the pain and joy of living in the real world. And since going permanently online, we have been able to welcome great preachers from all over the world without having to wait for them to visit our shores. Click here to meet the inspirational preachers depicted in the gallery above, none of whom have preached for us!

Jonathan Cornford

Jonathan Cornford is an Australian political economist, theologian, and author best known for co-founding Manna Gum, a ministry that explores the intersection of the Christian faith with economics and ecology. He lives in Bendigo, Victoria, and is a prominent voice in advocating for "good news economics"—a vision of living simply and sustainably in a consumer-driven world. Along with his wife Kim, Jonathan founded Manna Gum, an independent Christian non-profit in 2009 to help people reclaim biblical teachings on material life and apply them to the global economy. Before Manna Gum, he spent a decade as an advocacy coordinator for Oxfam Australia, focusing on natural resource management and international finance in Southeast Asia. Jonathan holds PhDs in both Political Economy and Theology. His work often challenges the compatibility of capitalism with the gospel, promoting "downshifting" to lower-consumption lifestyles. He frequently contributes to The Guardian and ABC Radio, discussing how families can live "richer lives" on lower incomes.
